about fluff and fuzz

My name is Amanda Berry and I love knitting, sewing and anything crafty!

I started designing my own toys as fluff and fuzz in 2010, and my knitting and sewing patterns have been featured in Handmade Living, Craftseller, and Let’s Get Crafting Magazines.

My knitting patterns are for knitting on straight needles (no awkward knitting in the round).  All my patterns are written so that they are easier for beginners to follow, and include lots of photos and instructions to help you.

My blog has all my free patterns and crafting tutorials, and you can keep up to date with fluffy fuzzy happenings on Facebook and Twitter, and catch up on Pinterest and Busymitts.

FAQS

Below I have tried to answer some of my frequently asked questions, but please do get in touch if you are still unsure!  I am always happy to help!

WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR PATTERNS?

You can buy my patterns from several online stores, please visit the ”buy my patterns” page on my blog for all the links.

For instant downloads (no waiting for the postman or emails!), please visit Craftsy, Lulu and Ravelry.

For patterns sent by email, please visit my Etsy, Folksy or Misi stores.  I endeavour to send your patterns to you by email within 24 hours of payment.

I AM A BEGINNER KNITTER, CAN I USE YOUR PATTERNS?

I want to make toy making easier for newbie knitters, and the information in the store listing will include the different knitting techniques needed to make each toy.  To help you, every pattern has:

- row by row instructions, so you won’t lose your place,

- instructions on the knitting abbreviations used,

- a list of materials,

- photos of the finished toy, and

- photos of the construction process, with detailed instructions.

And I am ready to answer any questions as you make your toy, either through email, store messages or you can write a comment on my blog.

ARE YOUR PATTERNS KNITTED FLAT OR IN THE ROUND?

All my patterns are knitted flat, but most can be converted to knitting in the round. I know a lot of people hate seaming, but I wanted beginner
knitters to enjoy my patterns, and knitting in the round can be tricky for newbie knitters.

HELP!  I CAN’T FIND THE PATTERN I AM LOOKING FOR

If you need help finding what you are looking for, just get in touch and I will be happy to help.

DO I NEED A SEWING MACHINE TO MAKE YOUR KNITTED TOYS?

No, all the toys are sewn together by hand.  You will not need a sewing machine to sew them together, just a darning or tapestry needle.

CAN I SELL TOYS MADE FROM YOUR PATTERNS?

I have no objection if you wish to sell finished toys made from my knitting patterns, provided I am given credit as the pattern designer.   These patterns are intended for personal use, so you are not authorised to sell the pattern itself.   I encourage items knitted from my patterns to  be sold for charity fundraising purposes.

ARE YOUR PATTERNS IN ENGLISH?

All patterns are written in English, and use English knitting terminoogy.  I include a guide to the knitting abbreviations and techniques in my patterns to help you, as well as a knitting needle size chart.

If you have any questions about your patterns, I am always willing to help.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FREE PATTERNS?

For some free knitting tutorials and patterns, please have a peek at the “free stuff” page on my blog.

DO YOU SELL THE FINISHED TOYS?

I am sorry, but I am currently not taking any custom orders owing to my other commitments to magazines and also studying for my fashion degree.

    3.P (36)
    4.K (36)
    5.P (36)

    • Hello Lea

Thank you for your message, I hope I can help you.

To start, you will need to cast on 18 stitches onto your needle.

The numbers at the beginning of each line (1., 2., 3., ) are the row numbers. Every time you work all the stitches on your needle, this is a row.

The letters are the stitches that you need to make on that row, so for example: 1. P (18)….this means that for the first row you will purl all the stitches, leaving 18 stitches on your needle ready to work on row 2. The next row, row 2, is 2. KFB x 18 (36). On this row you will KFB each stitch (this is an increase which creates two stitches out of one, and I have a tutorial on my blog if you are not sure how to do it). When you have done KFB on every stitch you will have 36 stitches on your needle ready to work for row 3. On row 3 you will purl (P) every stitch, and row 4 you will knit (K) every stitch.

At row 10, you have the instruction 10. K10, [K2TOG] X 8, K10 (28). So for this row you would start with 36 stitches on your needle that you purled on row 9. You knit the first 10 stitches for row 10. Then you K2tog 8 times (this is knit two stitches together, again I have a tutorial if you need it). You should then have 10 stitches left to work and you knit all of these. This should leave 28 stitches on your needle ready to work at row 11.

I hope this helps, but if you need more help please do leave a comment, or you can email me at fluffandfuzz@googlemail.com, as I will be able to respond quicker

      Many thanks, and happy Christmas

      Amanda

  3. Hi,
I just stumbled across your blog while doing some knitting research. I already love it. I bought your apple/pear pin cushion pattern immedietly! Such great value and so easy to order. I am so happy I have found your blog. Your tutorials and posts are really great! I am a keen knitter and homebody, perhaps you might even pay me a visit… Can’t wait to make the apple and blog about it…

  4. I found a pattern I really want to try but I’m confused by the 3mm knitting needle size. What US size should I use?

  5. HI Amanda – i just bought two of your pattern packets today. so excited. question – do u recommend any specific brand of yarn to use for these?

    • Hi Danielle!

I am so pleased you like the patterns. One of my favourite yarns is from Debbie Bliss, and the cashmerino aran is lovely to knit and is great for toys if you can get hold of it. If you need any more help on a specific pattern, just let me know and I will be happy to help.

      Best wishes

      Amanda
